Chartered on 29 September 1969, the Rotaract Club of Kuala Lumpur goes down in history as the second oldest Rotaract Club in Malaysia. It comes under the parent body Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur Diraja, under the territory of District 3300-Malaysia.
In general, what does Rotaract Club do? Well, it basically has four main avenues of action, and it usually organises projects, talks with professional guest speakers, outings and parties in line with them. The avenues are:
Rotaract clubs carry out at least one community service project each year in an effort to improve the lives of the people around them. The possibilities for worthwhile projects are endless. To name a few, Rotaractors (as the members are called) volunteer to assist at orphanages and homes for abused children; organise community service events such as blood donation drives, and literacy promotion; develop recreational areas; as well as work to improve and preserve the environment.
A club’s professional development activities can help to expand a members’ understanding of the work environment and business opportunities within their community. These activities highlight the Rotaractor’s role in the community’s economic development and illustrate how skills developed through service activities can help in resolving problems in the workplace and in any other environment. Under this avenue of service, Rotaract clubs organise activities that stress on leadership training and professionalism. Rotaract respects and recognises the value of all useful occupations as opportunity to serve.
Because Rotaractors want to learn more about other cultures and do their part to promote world peace and understanding, they undertake at least one international service project each year. Such an activity takes on many forms. For instance, Rotaractors raise funds for international disaster relief programs; make exchange visits with Rotaractors in other countries and host similar visits from other Rotaract clubs; and volunteer their skills in international development and assistance project. The most interesting part is the once in a lifetime opportunity to forge lasting international friendships.
While Rotaractors work hard, they also believe in having a good time. Rotaractors have the chance to have loads of fun, try new things and make friends through the activities under this avenue including movie outings, camping trips, interclub gatherings, sporting events, themed parties and much more. Members have loads of fun getting together, working together and staying together. A lot of hard work and effort is required from a Rotaractor, but the rewards are plentiful.
