AMBP First Contact at Studio V will be the AMBP’s third gathering in as many years. This year’s gathering is themed after Star Trek. Details of the event follow:

Date: May 1, 2009 (Friday, Labour Day)
Time: 1.30pm onwards
Venue: Studio V & V2, 1 Utama (Rainforest, New Wing)
Screening Venue: Hall 3, Golden Screen Cinemas, One Utama*

*There will be full security at this screening and guests will not be allowed to bring in any recording and electronic devices i.e mobile phones, PDAs, notebooks etc

Star Trek Online Contest

Here’s a little activity online that’ll give you a chance to win something prior to the event. Naturally, entering the contest will also go a long way in improving your bid for an invitation.

It’s a simple contest and you’ll only have to do what you do best: blog.

Write a little something on the movie Star Trek, and on the AMBP First Contact at Studio V gathering, all on your blog. Then copy & paste the link to your blog entry in the space provided when you register to attend the event.

You’ve got until April 27 to do so. The 10 best entries get a very cool STAR TREK T-Shirt each.

Gophers Treasure Trek



The Gophers Treasure Trek is a Star Trek-themed Treasure Hunt (now that’s a mouthful), prizes to which is sponsored by Gophers Technologies.

If you’re not a Trekker, or if you’re a newcomer to the phenomenon, rest assured you won’t lose out, as the questions are set up just for folks like you.

Yep, you don’t require strict adherence to Vulcan reasoning and logic, or the Klingon art of war, to succeed – although a bit of both may prove helpful to you on this Treasure Trek.

What you really need is a little common sense, a sense of humour, and a sense of direction, so don’t leave them behind. ;-)

Participants will be paired, so teams of twos will be competing for the prizes. The Trek will get you to run around in 1 Utama shopping complex, and may take, at most, two hours to complete.

Star Trek Trivia Challenge

The Star Trek Trivia Challenge will take place during the AMBP First Contact at Studio V gathering.

It will be a knock-out challenge where participants will be asked questions on the movie Star Trek, as well as on AMBP and Red FM.

Participants will form a line and take turns in answering questions. A participant who fails to answer three questions will be eliminated from the competition.

After answering a question, a participant heads to the end of the line, and this will be repeated until the numbers dwindle down to the last man/woman standing.

That knowledgeable person will be adjudged the winner of the grand prize. Prizes will be revealed on the day of the gathering.

Photo Session with Star Trek Characters

Thanks to the folks from Outpost Cafe & Hobby Centre, characters from Star Trek will grace the AMBP First Contact at Studio V gathering. There’ll be Klingons and Vulcans and bad Capt. Kirk impressions.

We will beam them down from whence they came, and you’ll have the opportunity to snap a shot with them, you know, to immortalise the moment.

Still, note that we’re not liable if the Klingons decide to wrestle you; interaction with them is at your own risk.

Captain’s chair under the hammer

This one's for those who really want to get into the role.

An exclusively built Star Trek Captain's Chair will be on display at Studio V and it will be auctioned. If you're interested, you can make a bid for it at the gathering. We'll start the bid at RM1,701 and take it from there.

Note: The chair is best used while watching Star Trek. At home. With your Star Trek costume on. With friends who are, shall we say, as geeky as you.

AMBP Interviews Bloggers

AMBP, which is constantly being improved upon, is going to have separate pages for each of its members. In other words, there will be a personal page for each blogger.

On this particular page, bloggers will get a chance, if they choose, to introduce themselves and their blog or blogs on video. This page will also feature blog or blogs that belong to the member.

The series will be called AMBP Interviews Bloggers and is currently in the pipeline as part of our development for the grouping that falls under the larger portal AllMalaysia.info.

During the AMBP First Contact at Studio V gathering, we will be conducting interview sessions with bloggers and each session will be recorded at the studio. We will interview as many bloggers as possible but you’ll have to let us know if you want to do so, by ticking the relevant box when you register to join the gathering/screening.

The videos will be featured on the personal pages of the members when we roll them out gradually. Bloggers will be notified when their videos are up online.
