Baby, baby, baby....it's Bieber
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.
QUESTION. How do you make Justin Bieber cry? Well, you tell him Santa's not real. :)

OK, before you Bieberettes, Beliebers and Bieberbots get your Bieber undies in a bunch, that was a joke. So calm down, I won't diss her anymore.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I actually bear good news for you, fans of the hair-swished teen heartthrob.

We've got 10 copies of Justin's My Worlds - an expanded version of his debut mini-album My World - and we're giving it away for free as part of our regular Music CD Giveaway series. We're even throwing in a Bieber Handkerchief to go with each CD, so you could er, wipe the sweat off your brow listening to him going on about love and babies:

To get your hands on one of the 10 copies of 'My Worlds' that we have in our possession, you will have to do the following:

1) Answer this question: Name the title of the Justin Bieber song in the clip above.

2) Post up this pic:

3) Write about Justin Bieber

...all on your blog. Then send the link to that particular blog post as a comment here. Ten best entries take home the CDs.

You've got until Sept 16, 2010 to complete the above tasks. Winners will be notified by e-mail.

Oh, and that's not all. You'll be pleased to hear that the folks over at Universal Music Malaysia (UMM) are trying their very best to make your dreams come true; they're hoping to bring Justin to Malaysia for a showcase!

But they're gonna need your help to realise the above plan. They've started a campaign called Bieber Vision on the UMM Facebook Fanpage, and they need you to 'Like' the page so you could then leave a 'love note' for your teen idol, telling him how much you adore him.

The idea is to get the numbers (15,000, at least) to start a local Justin Bieber Fan Club (complete with membership cards!), to use it as leverage to convince Justin's people to send the lad over to our part of the world. Y'know people power and all.

So, if you want the above to happen (and win some Justin Bieber goodies doing it), head on over to UMM's Facebook Fanpage and do your part.

I'm sure she'll be happy, that Justin. ;)

Let's dance for the tiger
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

The Tiger is in dire straits, a fact that I'm pretty sure you already knew. According to WWF, wild tiger numbers have fallen by 95% over the past 100 years, largely due to poaching. It is believed that as few as 3,200 are left in the wild today and the numbers are dropping at an alarming rate. In fact, three tiger subspecies - the Bali, Javan, and Caspian - have already become extinct.

Now here's something you may not already know. Among the six remaining subspecies, The Malayan tiger has the best chance of survival. In fact, it has the best chance to achieve the goal of WWF Malaysia's TX2 campaign, to double the numbers of Malayan tigers by 2022.

You can help in this noble effort, and what's more, it can be fun. All you need to do, for now, is...dance. Yep, you read that right. WWF has launched a little campaign called Freeze Tiger Trade (FTT), where it is hoping to get as many people as possible to either join in its Flash Mob, or conduct their own.

How will this help, you ask? Well, for one, it'll attract attention. It's a call to arms, a show of solidarity, a gesture to say, "We want to end tiger trade!"

What's important to note is to whom this message is directed. This September, the first ever international summit on tiger conservation and protection will be held in Russia. Heads of states will be talking about tigers (and perhaps about Tiger Woods on the sidelines).

WWF Malaysia  needs our help to send a message of support and hope to these policymakers, particularly to the Malaysian delegates.

July 30, 2010 has been earmarked for the occasion, so mark your calendars and make sure you attend the WWF-led Flash Mob. Time and venue will be announced later on the FTT page, over at the TX2 website, so do check back regularly.

In the meantime, blog about this campaign, and spread the news! And don't forget to add our TX2 blog buttons (linked directly to the Tx2 website) which you can find on our Blog Buttons page.

To join the FTT Flash Mob, you'll need to know a few things. The dance steps being one of them:

Also, if you're going to organise your own Flash mob, for your convenience, the DOs and DON'Ts as outlined by the good folks over at WWF:

Freeze Dos
1. Conduct the Freeze anywhere you want, make yourself seen (it is your initiative, your action to help save tigers) on July 30, 2010.
2. Freeze for about 4 minutes (4 minutes to save the world!) anytime from 12.01am until 12.00pm.
3. Pose mimicking tiger (flop on floor, angry tiger, cute tiger, etc) but make sure your pose has a message to end tiger trade.
4. Share your Freeze experience on Tx2 Facebook group.
5. Record your freeze (photos/ video) and send it to tx2campaign@gmail.com
6. Display the Freeze messages we have on www.tx2.my, use your creativity (to save paper, display the messages on your laptop or use recycled paper to print)
7. Feel free to paint your face, body or wear tiger colours during your Freeze (simple black, white or orange tees are good enough or you can buy the official Tx2 tees from WWF‐Malaysia)
8. Take care of your safety and belongings during the Freeze (have your friends to hold your belongings or watch over it)
9. Ask your friends and family to join your Freeze (the more the merrier!)
10. Socialise the Freeze and help advertise this Freeze for tigers through new media (FB, Twitter, blog, etc) and spread the word
11. Join the WWF‐led Freeze later in the day (we will Freeze, plus something more..) and come for rehearsals. Learn more about tigers while having some fun.

Freeze Don’ts
1. Complicate your Freeze position. (Make sure you are comfortable in your
position for the four minutes of Freeze. Do practice if you like).
2. Throw away your Freeze message(s). (Make it into a bumper sticker or post at your office or college as reminder that tiger trade is everyone’s problem, and not just the government)
3. Be shy. (You are doing a wonderful thing, standing up for tigers. Put your heart and mind into it!)
4. Use live tigers to Freeze with. (Tigers are solitary animals, so leave them alone – in the forest and in captivity)
5. Strip to get attention (be decently dressed so that we can use your
photos/videos)
6. Create your own message. (We have plenty on our
www.tx2.my website and we would like to show uniformity and unity in spreading the message) along with the number of people in your Freeze. (WWF will compile all photos, videos and number of supporters to stop tiger trade and share it with the government).

OK then. I'll let David Bowie have the final say.

Music CD Giveaway: Akon vs. K'naan
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.
Hiya. Quick one. It's another Music CD Giveaway and we've got five copies of K'naan's second studio album Troubadour in our possession to pass on to you.

If you're wondering why the name K'naan sounds so familiar, it's because one of the tracks on the Somali-Canadian hip-hop artist's album Wavin' Flag was chosen as Coca-Cola's promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. So you've been er, bombarded with the song for the last three weeks.

Here's the video, if you haven't already seen it:

To put yourself in the running to win a copy of Troubadour, you'll have to do the following:

1) Post up this pic:

2) Then tell us which song between K'naan's Wavin' Flag and Akon's Oh Africa you feel represents the FIFA 2010 World Cup better.

...all on your blog. Then send the link to that particular blog post as a comment here. Closing date is on July 16, 2010.

For comparison, here's the official vid for the Akon number:

The Xtreme Challenge + The Tiger's plight + Owl City Music CD Giveaway
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

Good evening, and that's me back here on AMBP. What the devil is going on here then? Well, for one, we're having an extreme challenge. And by extreme I don't mean you have to go all Osama bin Laden or Ku Klux Klan on us. Instead, you can go all crazy like this dude.

Anyways, yes, we're organising an extreme challenge which will take place on Saturday, June 5, a holiday. We're doing this with the help of the generous folks over at Sunway Lagoon, who's actually the party that's doing all the heavy lifting. We're calling it the AMBP Xtreme Challenge at Sunway, leaving out the 'e' from 'extreme' simply because we're trying to sound current and hip (not working eh?).

So, what does this Challenge entail then? Well, it's actually a race, where teams of five are given clues from which they must determine the tasks that they're supposed to undertake to complete the race. There are some 10 (or thereabouts) tasks in all, and you and your teammates will have to decide amongst yourselves who gets to do what. If you're worried that the tasks are a tad too 'extreme' for your taste, don't. They're actually more fun than anything.

If you're interested, register now, as we're limiting participation to 100 people or 20 teams. Find four other gullible, er, like-minded folk, one of whom wouldn't mind getting swallowed whole by a snake (kidding!), and sign up today!

As with all our ground events thus far, we're tying up the AMBP Xtreme Challenge with an Online Contest. It's for you restless souls who just want something to do (and win) while waiting for the day of the event to arrive. Details can be found on the AMBP Xtreme Challenge pages.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll try to think what Osama would say before I answer.

Save our tigers, earn your stripes

Last Friday, while I was busy reading through my twitter stream, someone posted a link to a rather troubling video. In it, a tiger, treated rather poorly by its handler and looking as if it was heavily sedated, is displayed on a raised platform, for the benefit of paying visitors. What makes it even more troubling is the fact that this happened, or rather this is happening, in our own backyard; it's obvious that the video was shot in a resort in Alor Gajah, Malacca.

Now, I don't know how we can claim the tiger as our national animal when we treat it this way. I don't know how we can claim to be a caring society when we can allow for the exploitation of a majestic animal such as this. I don't know how, in this day and age, when information about how important it is to ensure proper treatment of animals in captivity is so readily available, that we have well-known zoos/resorts (such as the one depicted in the video) blatantly going about its way as if such things don't matter.

Well, you as a blogger can do something about this. You can help spread the word. You can show your disapproval and displeasure for the mistreatment of the tiger in the video on this Facebook Page, which also suggests other ways that you can help.

In fact, you can go one step further by highlighting the tiger's plight, in general. If you don't already know, WWF is currently running a year-long campaign (to end in February 2011) called Tiger x 2: Double or Nothing Campaign or TX2, for short. You can find more information about the campaign at the official site http://www.tx2.my.

To support the campaign, the AMBP has created TX2 blog buttons (linked directly to the Tx2 site) which you can find on our Blog Buttons page.

Here's the official video for the TX2 campaign:

Whoo Whoo: An Owl City Music CD Giveaway

Owl City is the chosen moniker of one Adam Young, who prior to his music going viral online, was just like any other musician with a dream.

Today, thanks largely to insomnia, Owl City is a star, a one-man wizard on the keyboard who has captured the attention and imagination of millions of fans worldwide.

Now you too can enjoy Owl City's music, thanks to Universal Music who has provided us with 10 copies of his first *official* CD Ocean Eyes.

You know the drill:

1) Answer this question:
What's the name of Owl City's debut album as a recording artist with Universal? Is it:
a) Ocean Eyes b) Ocean Nose or c) Ocean Mouth?

2) Post up this pic

And
3) Write something - anything! - on Ocean Eyes.

...all on your blog. Then send the link to that particular blog post as a comment here. Closing date is on Jun 6, 2010.

Also, if you want to win more goodies, join Universal Music Malaysia's official Facebook Page and enter its 'Who is Owl City' contest.

Oh wow! A blog post!
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.
Hello...Hello...Hello...Hello...

Wow, the echo in here is rather deafening.

Sorry, I haven't been around here much. I've been in this weird place, a sort of limbo, where I was tasked to help with something else, and because of that I had to put AllMalaysia.info and AMBP on hold, and well, long story short, we get the echo.

But I now find myself back here, so I thought heck, lets get back to something familiar, just to tide us over till Christmas and the new year, and figure out where we're gonna go from there. And what's more familiar around these parts than the Music CD Giveaway Contest?

The featured rock band is a rather familiar one too - by jove! it's Bon Jovi! (Yeah, yeah I know it's lame, but hey, I always wanted to put that in a sentence, so bear with me).

The boys from New Jersey, recently released their eleventh studio album The Circle, and if guitarist Richie Sambora is to be believed, you'll dig this one 'cos it rocks hard. This is what he said to Rolling Stone Magazine:
"I think people are going to dig it, man. And it rocks hard".
Er, yeah. Anyway, if you're a fan, try your hand at this simple contest. We've got ten (10) copies of The Circle to give away, each of which comes with a Bon Jovi poster. You'll have to do the usual:

1) Answer this question: What's the name of Bon Jovi's latest album?
2) Post up this pic:

3) Write anything that comes to your mind about Bon Jovi (the U-rated imaginings please, ladies).

...all on your blog, then send the link to that particular blog post as a comment here. Ten (10) best entries take home the CDs.

You've got until Dec 18 to complete the above tasks. Winners will be notified by e-mail.

Oh yeah and here's a message from the sponsor: Celebrate Bon Jovi 25th Year Anniversary. Purchase the Malaysian Edition Album of Bon Jovi The Circle and get a Free Limited Edition Wall Poster While Stocks Last.

Passes to Muallaf Gala Premiere

The late Yasmin Ahmad, arguably Malaysia's most critically-acclaimed storyteller and filmmaker, through her accomplishments, has left a legacy that is at the top of the scale by any measure.

Her films are at once thought-provoking and light, inspiring and controversial, humorous and poignant, and astute and idealistic. Case in point: her fifth film Muallaf.

Now here's your chance to win an invitation to the Gala Premiere of Muallaf, details of which follow:

Venue: Cathay Cineplex Damansara
Date: Dec 16, 2009
Time: 9.30pm

There are two ways you can get hold of one of the 30 double passes we have to the event above.

(1) The first is to write either a tribute to Yasmin, OR your expectations of Muallaf, on your blog by Dec 14. You'll need to provide the link to that particular post of yours, as a comment here, OR as a direct message tweet to @allmalaysia.

(2) The second option is easier though it bears less weight compared to the above. Tweet using the hashtag #ambp_muallaf. You can write whatever catches your fancy just so long as it's relevant to the tag. We'll select the ones that best catch our attention.

The contest is open to AMBP members as well as Malaysians following the @allmalaysia Twitter account.

We'll start informing the winners beginning Dec 14, with details on how you can collect your prizes. This will go on until we've run out of passes or until the cutoff point at 2pm, Dec 15.

Till then.

Free passes to Eason Chan's Moving on Stage 26 Concert + Sunway Lagoon
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

Ello, ello.

I won't go into why it took me a few months to update this site; I'll just say there's a perfectly legitimate reason and leave it at that.

I would rather get right down to business. I've got five Eason Chan concert tickets (worth RM98 each), and several passes to Sunway Lagoon (RM90 each) to give away, and since we've just added the Twitter widget on the right, we're going to make this one a contest on Twitter.

All you need to do is tweet using the hashtag #easonchan, and we'll select the ones that best catch our attention. Yep, it's as simple as that.

This contest is open to Malaysians following the @allmalaysia Twitter account.

We'll start informing the winners as early as 11am tomorrow, with details on how you can collect your prizes. This will go on until we've run out of passes or until the cutoff point at 7pm, tomorrow (Aug 14).

Oh, and since everyone will get a combination of passes/tickets you get to choose your combination, which means you can win two Eason Chan passes; OR two Sunway Lagoon passes; OR one Eason Chan pass and one Sunway Lagoon pass; as long as the combination is available.

For more details on the concert simply head on over/contact www.sunwaylagoon.com/03-5639 0000; www.galaxy.com.my/03-22822020, or www.axcess.com.my/03-77115000.

Good luck, and look out for my next post where I'll try to explain what we've been working on especially for AMBP members.

We're gathering again + AllMalaysia.info Contest + Other stuff
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

On a dazzling display of logic that'll warm the cockles of Spock's heart/pointy ears, we've joined forces with fellow geeks United International Pictures, Red FM, Outpost Cafe & Hobby Centre, and Gophers Technologies to beam up 100 bloggers onto Studio V at 1.30pm on May 1, 2009 for AMBP's 2009 gathering, which we've dubbed First Contact @ Studio V.

The event will be a sort of homage to helmer J.J. Abrams' new enterprise Star Trek (a reboot of the original TV/movie series) and we're hoping that it would allow you to geek out to the max, even if you're a non-Trekker.

Naturally, it will culminate with a Special Advance Screening of the much anticipated movie, a whole week before the local official release (May 7). So if you're invited to the event, you automatically get a pass to the exclusive Sneak Peek scheduled at 7pm on the day.

But don't worry. We've also cracked our heads (yes, even our Klingon warrior Sashi, whose head isn't very easy to crack), thinking up of ways to keep you busy prior to the screening.

The first of these activities takes place on cyberspace. It's an Online Contest for you restless souls who just want something to do (and win) while waiting for the day of the event to arrive.

On the day itself, we will have a Treasure Hunt (prizes of which are sponsored by Gophers Technologies), interviews with bloggers, an auction, a Star Trek Trivia Challenge, and a Lucky Draw, among other things.

You can tell us in advance if you're going to participate in any of the activities we've lined up for the day, when you register to attend the event. Just log in, and tick the relevant boxes.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll try to answer as logically as possible.

Send eCards = Hotel Stay + Cash

Now that's a seemingly illogical equation that'll drive a Vulcan crazy!

But trust us, it does make sense. At least for a little contest we've set up on AllMalaysia.info. It's called E-mail It, Experience It! and you stand to win a hotel stay and some moolah to go with it.

All you need to do to put yourself in the running to win one of the prizes on offer is send ecards. Yep, it's that simple!

Sponsored by ING Malaysia, this one lets you choose your prize. And you don't even have to be an AMBP member, or a blogger for that matter. Heck, we don't even mind if you think you're a Romulan.

The contest starts on April 20, so look out for it.

More Contests

Have you sent in your entries to the two other contests that we're running at the moment. No? Really? What on Earth are you waiting for? Captain Kirk? Sheesh - go click, now!

Contest for AMBP Passengers + U2
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

Ladies and Gentlemen, This is your Captain speaking.

On behalf of the flight crew, let me welcome you aboard the AMBP, heading for Bloggersville, Malaysia. We should've touched down ages ago but due to complications with the engine we're running on, things have not been going as planned. Someone's tinkering with the engine as we speak, so we're in OK hands. I think.

That is to say, we're heading somewhere and would *eventually* reach our destination. Even if it's as slow as a slug to a patch of salt.

Folks, we've just hit our cruising altitude and I've switched off the seatbelt light, so you're free to wander about while listening to me ramble on about a contest we're organising, just so you know you still have a pilot up here doing his best, trying to fly the plane, while shuttling back and forth, changing into his multiple uniforms...and hats. Yep, you've already met me, myself and I several times just now.

I demonstrated to you how to put on the lifejacket at the start of this flight, and took your lunch order, and even prepared the damn thing. Service above self, and all.

Anyway, back to the contest. We're running it in conjunction with the release of the in-flight movie Passengers, the story of which follows a young therapist (Anne Hathaway) assigned to counsel five survivors of a plane crash. Note that if this plane crashes, you'll probably get me as the therapist too. I'm no Anne Hathaway but I'm good at giving advice. Honest.

Winning this contest will entitle you and a friend to watch the movie for free. Otherwise you'll just have to fork out a couple of bucks (gasp!) or make do with this trailer.

And what is it you're required to do to win this contest? Well, all you'll need to do is sit back, relax and conjure up a caption for a photo taken from the movie and that's it! Naturally, you'll have to do this before we actually touch down. God knows when that is, but you can find futher details in our in-flight magazine.

For now I'll just leave you to your thoughts.

On behalf of your cockpit and cabin crew – me, me, and me - please, sit back and enjoy your trip. Oh, sh**e! Damn stick has come undone!

A Contest for U2, i.e Music CD Giveaway is back!

Irish superband U2 hasn't released an album since 2004's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Until now that is.

Fans must be wondering if the boys from Dublin still have it in them to reach the heights of The Joshua Tree (that's my favourite U2 album, so there!), but hey, why don't you find out for yourself if they do, by winning yourself a copy of their latest studio album , their twelfth, No Line on the Horizon.

Thanks to Universal Music, we have 10 copies of the album to give away, with a U2 T-shirt each to go with them. Now, once again, how awesomely giving are we? ;-)

You know the drill:

1) Answer this question:
What's the name of U2's twelfth studio album? Is it a) No Buffet Line to Cut In b) No Line on the Horizon; or c) No Line, that damn streamyx ?

2) Post up this pic:

And

3) Write something - anything! - about U2.

...all on your blog. Then send the link to that particular blog post as a comment here.

Closing date is on April 27, 2009.

Next: Details on AMBP's 2009 Gathering at Studio V.

An update for the new year
Posted by Michael A Fredericks.

Good day all. Hope the new year has been good to you. It certainly has been a busy start for me. I didn't intend to mothball this site, but with one thing after another, well, you know how it is.

Anyway, I'm back after a period of holiday bliss, and the first thing I have to do, I suppose, is to tie up the loose ends from last year. We had an active period at the tail end of 2008 with charity events and contests and such, so I do owe you  reports, big thanks, and to some, prizes.

Splashing Charity Car Wash (Dec 13 & 14, 2008)

The charity event was a success as far as car/visitor turnouts and tickets sales are concerned, but we were a little disappointed by the lack of volunteers. We had a total of eight volunteers among AMBP members who showed up for the two-day event. That left us seriously short on numbers, but thankfully, we managed to get our colleagues, friends and family members to help out, and pulled through rather well in the end.

In total we managed to collect RM4500 from ticket sales. That's an estimated figure by the way, as I've yet to receive the final numbers from Hospis Malaysia. Will update this space when I get it.

As for the car wash itself, well, let's just say that it wasn't a walk in the park for the volunteers. It was more like a swim in the waterpark. Heh.

Still, both the volunteers and visitors had plenty of fun. Just about everybody got wet. There were tired but cheerful faces everywhere and while the weather threatened a number of times to spoil the party on both days, it didn't, and we came out of it with a wonderful sense of achievement.

My thanks to ALL the volunteers, whether you're a blogger, a representative of a sponsor, a Hospis Malaysia volunteer, a friend, family or colleague. You made this a success. You made the difference.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the Splashing Charity Car Wash Photo Gallery.

Project 'Gift a Kid' & visit to Rumah WAKE (Dec 20, 2008)

Besides the car wash, we had one other charity project called Project Gift a Kid, a joint initiative with the Rotaract Club of Kuala Lumpur.

The objective  of the project was to raise funds to buy back-to-school material for 100 underprivileged kids aged six to 15. Thanks to your efforts, we managed to raise enough funds (amounting to RM5793.75, as of Dec 25) to buy a 'full pack' each for 40 kids.

Each 'full pack' contained a pair of school uniforms (with socks and shoes), a school bag, some notebooks, a pencil box, and stationery (2B pencils, pens, eraser, ruler, scissors, glue, sharpener, pencil colours, highlighters and oil pastels).

The folks from Rotaract Club have handed over the items to the kids at Rumah WAKE and SJKT Cheras in time for the new school term. I made the Dec 20 trip to Rumah WAKE as well, and while we weren't encourage to take pictures of the kids, we did manage to capture a few shots of the home (view Photo Gallery), where the caretakers organised a little lunch do for us.

All and all, you could say we're very happy with how this one turned out. My sincerest gratitude and thanks go out to everyone who played a part in this project.

We ran a caption contest in conjunction with Project Gift a Kid to give you a chance to win something for yourself while doing some good. Y'know, two birds and all.
