Culture & Society - Malaysiana
An array of symbols, flags, emblems, practices, lingo and wacky objects help define what Malaysia is and what it means to be Malaysian. Here we collect them and name them simply as “Malaysiana”.
Bunga Raya
The national flower of Malaysia is the hibiscus, or bunga raya. The flower is found in abundance throughout the country, and for this very reason, was chosen to be the national flower (in 1960) by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Endless possibilities
I fell in love with role-playing games when I was 13 years old. Back then, RPG was not so popular and it was a chore to find people who shared the same interest and schedule as me.
Malaysian Time
It can be said with some certainty that Malaysian time is plus but never minus - i.e., expect things to generally start a little past their scheduled time, or people to get to an appointment just a teensy bit late.
Nasi Lemak
Does Malaysia have a national dish? No authority or national agency has yet come forward to set things in stone, but by default, that honour would have to go to nasi lemak.
Smocking and embroidery specialist
With the fashion industry expanding over the years, hence offering women vast choices, little girls are spoilt for choice, too.
