Man laps up attention, thanks to cute car

ONE fan, Mohd Azhari, 26, nearly stole the show recently at Suria KLCC with his self-designed Hello Kitty Kancil car.

The little vehicle was not just painted a pretty pale pink, but is decked with all things Hello Kitty.

The car seats were covered with a sweet pink-and-white checked cloth that Azhari stitched himself and Hello Kitty cushions and soft toys were displayed on the backseat.

The steering wheel is covered in a delicate pink, floral print cloth while mirrors and shades are original Hello Kitty merchandise.

“My interest in Hello Kitty began about three years ago when a friend introduced me to the character,” said Azhari, who works in the research and development department of an electronics factory in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

“She is a sweet character and makes life fun with all the beautiful things she is surrounded with.

“In Japan, there is a range of Hello Kitty cars specially produced by Daihatsu. But since I could not find any in Malaysia, I decided to turn my Kancil into a Hello Kitty car.”

Azhari would not state how much he spent on his car but said it ran into thousands of ringgit just buying the merchandise.

He added that his car attracted attention everywhere he went, especially from females.

“I do not mind the attention at all!” he said with a laugh.
