Stamps to mark golden jubilee

KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia has reproduced three classic stamps in gold to commemorate Malaysia's 50th anniversary of independence.

Aptly named the Golden Jubilee Collection, each of the stamps will weigh more than 28.35gmof pure 24-carat gold.

The first stamp portrays the symbolic gesture of Tunku Abdul Rahman raising his arm while shouting Merdeka! on Aug 31, 1957, which was reproduced from a stamp issued in 2003 to mark his 100th birthday.

The second stamp shows a map of the newly formed Malaysia, a reproduction of a stamp issued to commemorate the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963.

The third stamp will remain a surprise until it is made available to the public.

Only 5,000 sets of the stamps will be produced. It will be available only via subscription and not at post offices.

Each gold stamp is priced at RM5,880. The price for a full set is RM16,800.

For details, call Pos Malaysia's customer service office at 03-5634-8661 or 03-5634-8808.

The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) is deliberating on YTL Corp Bhd’s proposal for a bullet train service between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Should it be aye or nay?
Aye! It would be most beneficial indeed.
Nay! We have to seriously consider that we lack maintenance culture.
